Summary
The aim of the project is to reduce the energy intensity of railway transport and the environmental burden from it through creating a methodology that will describe the changes in the railway infrastructure needed for local operation of trains with alternative propulsion systems (including the description of the time-plan of the changes). Using appropriate technical (the track profile, the railway superstructure, or the train schedule) and economic (the cost per kilometer) parameters and considering the local availability of resources, the methodology will allow its user to choose the best type of train propulsion system for the specific railway. A user of the methodology can be a railway operator, a train-using transport company, or a customer of such a company.
