From Strahov to NASA: A data scientist’s journey

From Strahov to NASA: A data scientist’s journey
On March 29, from 16:30 to 18:00, the PhD Academy will host an online meeting with experimental physicist and data scientist Martin Kroupa entitled From Strahov to NASA. The lecture, which is part of the PhD Academy's summer course program, is aimed not only at PhD students but also at the research staff at the university. The lecture will be held in MS Teams and attendees can sign up via IS Edison.

A specialist in radiation detection, Kroupa has worked in the world's leading laboratories and government-funded institutes, including NASA, ESA, and CERN, as well as private organisations. "He will share the story behind a slightly different American dream. He will reveal what it is like to be a Czech scientist working abroad and how much experience you need to gain before venturing beyond the borders of your own country,“ Lucie Hofrichterová, administrator of the PhD Academy, invites to the lecture.

Kroupa is the principal investigator and project manager for future Deep Space Gateway missions.  He has developed, certified, and maintained systems for TSA and CBP. Most recently, he has been involved in projects at Los Alamos National Laboratory in the Space Science and Applications Group. He is the author and co-author of dozens of publications that have received hundreds of citations.
