During the evening, several Building of the Year titles and other special awards were presented. The competition, organized by the Foundation for the Development of Architecture and Construction, is held in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Czech Chamber of Authorized Engineers and Technicians, and the Association of Construction Entrepreneurs.
This year, the expert jury evaluated 116 submitted structures from across the Czech Republic and four international projects. The nominations were introduced on September 2, 2024, at the National Technical Museum. The award ceremony took place on November 8, attended by prominent figures, including the Minister for Regional Development, the Minister of Transport, and the Minister of Industry and Trade.
Building of the Year is one of the most significant events in the field of architecture and construction. Each year, the competition recognizes not only the aesthetic value of structures but also their contributions to engineering, transportation, and industry.
"This year again brought a record number of applications, double the long-term average. We assessed a wide range of structures, from the reconstruction of historic buildings to innovative modern projects, all of which demonstrate the importance of revitalization and repurposing of buildings today," stated Jan Fibiger, Chairman of the Program Council.
This year’s competition also attracted a record number of voters, with over 142,000 people participating in the online voting, reflecting the growing interest in this competition.
"For us, CEETe is not just a building but a timeless, personalized symbol of a new direction in sustainable energy, made possible through effective collaboration and the connection of academia with industry. A purely theoretical scientific concept would remain just that without being confronted with the perspectives of architects, designers, suppliers of unique technologies, and, last but not least, the builder. Each of these contributors embedded a unique part of their DNA into the CEETe, collectively creating an exceptional testing polygon that demonstrates to both professionals and the public how to transform a region with a rich coal-mining history into a modern, sustainable, and attractive space for living," said Stanislav Mišák, Director of CEET.
"We are extremely pleased to receive this award, which also confirms that our efforts are producing results. CEET is a concrete example of how the integration of science, modern technologies, and a practical approach can lead to solutions with a real impact. This is a success of the entire team, who have believed from the very beginning that the project has the potential to inspire not only our region but also other similar initiatives," said Lukáš Prokop, Director of CENET.
The National Centre for Construction 4.0 Award is a significant recognition for CEET's contribution to sustainable development and innovation in construction. The Building of the Year 2024 competition has once again succeeded in connecting top-tier projects, professionals, and the general public, emphasizing the vital role of architecture and construction in building a modern and sustainable society. This achievement is not only a recognition of individual projects but also an inspiration for further development and collaboration in the field.
