Ceremonial meeting of the Scientific Council of VŠB-TUO 2024 became an important moment for CEET

On 14 November, a ceremonial meeting of the Scientific Council of the VSB-TUO was held. The event was not only an opportunity to forward diplomas to new associate professors and graduates of doctoral study programmes, but also to award the best scientific research results.

The festive session began with the awarding of diplomas to recent graduates of doctoral study programmes, on behalf of CEET, Ing. Vojtěch Blažek, Ph.D. (graduate of FEI), who in his dissertation dealt with Optimization in SMART GRID, Ing. Ondřej Kabot, Ph.D. (graduate of FEI) whose thesis was focused on Research in the field of partial discharges of aircraft systems, Ing. Rostislav Prokeš, Ph.D. (graduate of HGF) defended his thesis on the Impact of frictional parameter changes on the treatment process and Ing. Jakub Čespiva, Ph.D. (FS graduate), who in his thesis dealt with the Production of liquid fuels from TAP using gasification and Fischer-Tropsch synthesis technologies. Doc. Ing. Jan Fulneček, Ph.D. (graduate of FEI) from the ENET Centre habilitated in the field of electrical power engineering with his thesis on Identification of partial discharge patterns of HV insulation systems.

„The topic was bold, but the results are so useful that it will be possible to draw on them for many years to come“, said Lukáš Prokop, the supervisor of Ondřej Kabot's work.

In addition to the awarding of diplomas to graduates of doctoral study programmes and new associate professors, the programme of the Scientific Council ceremony also included awards for the best scientific results for the year 2023. In the category of the best result of applied research in 2023, the employees of the Centre for Energy and Environmental Technologies, doc. Ing. Lukáš Prokop, Ph.D., prof. Ing. Stanislav Mišák, Ph.D., Ing. Jan Němec, Ing. Libor Hrdina, Ph.D., Ing. David Seidl, Ph.D. and doc. Ing. Miroslav Čulík, Ph.D. from the Faculty of Economics.

CEET greatly appreciates these successful collaborations and we realize that only mutual cooperation can bring results with unlimited potential.

Another highlight of the meeting was the awarding of prizes for the best scientific research results. Aristeidis Bakandritsos from the Nanotechnology Centre received the prestigious award for the international project Twinning Excellence in Management and Research for Green Energy and Chemicals Using Single-Atom Catalysis.

After the award ceremony, Aristeidis Bakandritsos commented on questions related not only to his achievement, but especially to his project.

What do you see as the biggest challenge in implementing the Twinning Excellence in Management and Research for Green Energy and Chemicals Using Single-Atom Catalysis project, and what are your primary goals?

Some of the biggest challenge I would be say apart of research and science itself is the motivation and the organization of all the people in the team in order to work closely together and stay together during all this journey but also in the end of the project.

How can your research in single-atom catalysis contribute to the advancement of sustainable technologies and energy solutions?

In term of research in single-atom catalysis this project involve aim to lit to some materials which would be able to transform some waste molecules coming from degradation of biomas to highvalue chemicals like bio fuel for example.

How does international collaboration help push the boundaries of scientific knowledge, and how do you evaluate the impact of the Twinning program on your team and CEET?

Through the international collaboration among our institution VSB-TUO and University of Milano and The University of Groningen we want to merge, like the name of the project MERGE.

"Applied research is a key pillar of commercialising scientific outputs that respond to the needs of society. It must therefore be an integral part of any technically oriented research organisation. At CEET, we place great emphasis on linking the scientific, industrial and public sectors to create a unique innovation ecosystem. I am proud of the fact that our team is constantly growing professionally and our outputs are gaining recognition not only in the scientific community, but also among the general public" Stanislav Mišák concluded by evaluating the achievements of the Centre for Energy and Environmental Technologies.
