In mid-April, the University Assembly Hall opened its doors to showcase technical, natural science, environmental, and economic fields through interactive exhibits and commented demonstrations.
The Improve your tech Day was attended by more than 1,300 students and teachers from 40 primary and secondary schools across Ostrava and other towns in the region. This event is part of the university's long-term popularisation and educational activities, which VSB – Technical University of Ostrava has been systematically developing for nearly 15 years. Their goal is to bring technical and scientific disciplines closer to the younger generation and to foster interest in both their future studies and professional careers in these fields.
The Nanotechnology centre (CNT), a part of the Centre for Energy and Environmental Technologies (CEET), was also involved in this event. Jakub Zágora, Zuzana Vilamová, and Lukáš Plesník prepared a series of simple experiments and demonstrations for visitors, focusing on the behaviour of materials within the nanoworld.
The station operated without the need for complex explanations, placing emphasis on observation and understanding principles in practice. Visitors could engage in several experiments showing how the properties of substances change with scale and why nanotechnology is applied in contemporary research and industry.
The presentation was part of a broader programme involving all university departments. The CNT thus complemented the spectrum of fields by providing an insight into the current state of materials research.
