Science and industry join forces in the new INOVO project!!!

With the financial support of the European Structural and Investment Funds, the Institute of Environmental Technologies (CEET, VŠB-TUO) is implementing a project called "Innovative technologies for a cleaner Ostrava region!!!" (CZ.02.01.01/00/23_021/0008588) in the period 1 January 2025 - 31 December 2028. The project was created within the framework of the Operational Programme Jan Amos Komenský (OP JAK), call: Inter-sectoral cooperation and inter-sectoral cooperation for ITI.

The INOVO!!! project is a groundbreaking initiative that will fundamentally connect academia with industrial partners and bring revolutionary approaches to current environmental challenges. The aim of the project is to create a robust platform for two-way transfer of information, knowledge and innovative technologies between VŠB-TUO, OU and key players from the application sphere. This collaboration focuses on addressing current air and water pollution issues with an emphasis on sustainable transition and economic development.

The research topics of the INOVO!!! project are based directly on the needs of industry, which guarantees their maximum relevance and applicability in practice. The partners involved include major companies DEKONTA a.s., Nano4people, s.r.o., BENEKOVterm, s.r.o., Veolia Energie ČR, a.s., RANIDO, s.r.o. and RPG Recycling, s.r.o. This cooperation will enable the implementation of cutting-edge research with a direct impact on industrial applications.

The project also includes socio-economic and geographical aspects of innovation implementation, thus focusing on comprehensive solutions to environmental challenges in the framework of sustainable development. The key partner is the Moravian-Silesian Innovation Centre Ostrava a.s. (MSIC), which ensures the coordination of the development of the innovation ecosystem in the region and the implementation of the RIS3 MSK strategies.

Research activities are divided into three key areas covering a number of topical issues:

1. Technologies for cleaner air

  • Advanced oxidation processes for the removal of volatile organic compounds and other pollutants.
  • Catalytic processes for the reduction of nitrogen emissions.
  • Development of complex technologies for flue gas cleaning of particulate and gaseous pollutants.
  • Capture of CO2, metals and semi-metals on solid sorbents.
  • Valorisation of waste materials into value-added products to reduce VOCs and other pollutants.

2. Technology for cleaner water

  • Innovative methods for the treatment and purification of wastewater from energy and industry.
  • Reduction of newly identified pollutants such as microplastics, pharmaceuticals, pesticides and perfluorinated substances.

3. Socio-economic and geographical aspects of innovation uptake

  • Socio-scientific research on clean air and water and on relevant technologies.
  • Governance of the transition to sustainability in clean tech.

The INOVO!!! project represents a significant step towards a cleaner and more sustainable environment not only in the Moravian-Silesian region but also in the wider context of modern industry. By combining cutting-edge research with real market needs, it creates unique opportunities for innovation and economic growth in the region.
