The project is implemented by experts from the Centre for Energy and Environmental Technologies of VŠB-TUO in cooperation with the University of Ostrava, Universidade de Vigo (Spain), Universität für Bodenkultur Wien (Austria) and partners from the application sphere. The project is funded by the Operational Programme Jan Amos Komenský (OP JAK) and its aim is to promote long-term cooperation between the scientific and application spheres. This cooperation is focused on the development of innovative solutions for sustainable energy with an emphasis on the practical applicability of the results and the strategic development of the region in line with the strategies of the Moravian-Silesian Region and the European Circular Economy Action Plan.
The research focuses on the production of solid alternative fuels (SAF) from waste, optimizing the operation of energy facilities and the use of energy by-products, reducing emissions of greenhouse gases, heavy metals, microplastics and other pollutants. The project also focuses on assessing the impacts on the health of the population and analysing the social acceptance of the changes and the motivation of the population to actively participate in the transformation. In its focus, the project responds to the impending ban on landfilling of energy-using waste and the need to replace fossil fuels. And it emphasises solid alternative fuels and their energy use, taking into account potential health, environmental and socio-economic impacts.
The project "Waste as an alternative energy source" will strengthen energy security, promote the link between research and practice and contribute to improving the quality of life in the region.
