Joint supervision of doctoral studies by VSB-Technical university of Ostrava and the Norwegian University

Summary
The Institutional cooperation project aims to accelerate collaboration between VŠB-Technical
University of Ostrava (TUO) and the Norwegian partners - the Norwegian University of Science and
Technology (NTNU) in research, university education, transfer of knowledge and experiences. The
above mentioned objectives will be achieved using the Joint supervision of doctoral studies, which
exhibits synergy in benefits for the collaborating universities and co-supervised doctoral students. As
the highest-level university education, the supreme quality of the doctoral studies is essential for
modern society. In the frame of this project we implement the joint supervision of doctoral studies in
doctoral programs of participating universities, improve curricula and educational materials for novel
doctoral study subjects, organize Czech-Norwegian Workshops on Nanotechnology and Nanoscience,
and straighten multilateral collaboration using improvement of joint research in the following fields:
(i) new generation photovoltaics and design of solar cells with structured surfaces.
(ii) development of new low-energy-consumption light sources with extraordinary properties as for
example spin-lasers, spintronic emitters, and terahertz lasers.
(iii) optimization and design of nanomaterials using calculations from first principles (ab-initio models).
(iv) application of novel ellipsometric techniques as Mueller matrix scatterometry and terahertz
ellipsometry.
(v) development of advanced preparation and modeling of nanostructures and nanomaterials.
(vi) study of diffractive surfaces and metasurfaces and their preparation.
