Regional and sustainable hydrogen production from renewable sources

Summary
The goal of the project is focused on researching the feasibility of utilizing waste from the production and processing of cellulose, paper, and cardboard, primarily sludge and waste fibres, to obtain hydrogen as fuel. The project will utilize a process chain hydrolytic pretreatment-anaerobic digestion-plasma conversion of biogas or biomethane into hydrogen and membrane separation of H2. The high proportion of lime in the sludge and waste clogs the fermenter of the biogas station. The research will focus on suppressing this negative effect during or after hydrolysis. The goal of the plasma conversion step is to optimize efficiency. In the final step of H2 separation, the main goal is to verify the usability of the selected membranes with regard to clogging by synthesis gas components.
