The INSPIRE project aims to develop a novel class of polymeric single-atom catalysts (SACs) integrated into piezo(photo)catalytic β-phase PVDF ultrafiltration membranes for the efficient degradation of persistent micropollutants (MPs) including PFAS in water. This interdisciplinary research combines advanced materials chemistry, photochemistry, and environmental engineering to overcome current limitations in pollutant removal by enhancing charge separation, catalytic activity, and membrane stability. The project addresses critical environmental and public health challenges by providing scalable, energy-efficient, and cost-effective water treatment technologies, thus contributing directly to EU sustainability goals and advancing SAC-based catalytic membrane technology.
