Research activities

Nanomaterials based on layered silicates and nanocarbons:

  • Technology of thin nanocomposite polymeric and carbon coatings and foils,
  • Synthesis of nanoparticles of metals and their oxides in the interlayer space and on the surface of the layered material,
  • Intercalation and grafting of layered materials with organic substances,
  • Mechanochemical and ultrasonic techniques for the preparation of submicron and nanometric particles, sonochemistry,
  • Nanocomposite hybrid "substrate-functional particle" fillers with antimicrobial properties.

Development and characterization of nanocomposite materials and nanoceramics:

  • Composite materials based on natural materials for energy storage (batteries, capacitors),
  • Polymeric nanocomposite materials based on natural materials for medical and sanitary applications,
  • Microcellular oxidic and silicate ceramics, cordierite ceramics,
  • Biocompatible hydroxyapatite ceramics and its composites with a biogenic component,
  • Microfluidic biosynthesis of metal nanoparticles,

Characterization of prepared nanomaterials and composites is carried out in cooperation with other laboratories using diffraction and spectroscopic methods, electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy analysis, particle and surface size evaluation, chromatography and other analytical methods. In addition to experimental methods, we use computer design of nanomaterials - molecular simulation (molecular mechanics and molecular dynamics), which allows us to interpret experimental data, analyze and predict the structure and properties of nanomaterials. Testing of material properties such as antimicrobial, electrical or mechanical properties are performed on the basis of external cooperation.
