"Nowadays, natural and technical sciences are often perceived as complex and unappealing. That’s precisely why this event aims to show that science can be not only understandable and fun, but also important and full of potential," said Prof. Kamila Kočí, Chair of the Ostrava branch of the Czech Chemical Society and head of the Heterogeneous Photocatalysis research group (IET, CEET, VSB-TUO). The Institute of Environmental Technology participated in this outreach event not only as a proud sponsor, but also as an active organizer. "Our colleagues prepared a program across three stands featuring colorful and eye-catching chemical experiments that attracted hundreds of visitors of all ages," Prof. Kočí added.
As part of the so-called "chemical fair", more than 30 interactive booths were spread throughout the castle grounds, offering a diverse range of experiments — from colorful flames and explosions, to “physico-chemical magic,” to demonstrations of luminescence and mathematical puzzles. Most of the experiments were not only demonstrated but could also be tried out by the visitors themselves. The program also included competitions, games, and small prizes for both children and adults.
We thank all colleagues who contributed to the organization and realization of this wonderful event, and we look forward to the 20th anniversary edition in 2026!
