Institute of Environmental Technology - Excellent Research
With the financial support of the European Structural and Investment Funds, the Institute of Environmental Technology of VŠB-TU Ostrava is implementing a project entitled “Institute of Environmental Technology - Excellent Research” (CZ.02.1.01 / 0.0 / 0.0 / 16_019 / 0000853). The duration of this project is from November 11, 2018 till October 31, 2022. The project was created within the Operational Program Research, Development and Education (OP RDE), call: Excellent research, and was supported by CZK 107.3 million. The aim of the project is to develop selected research activities, to support and strengthen research teams and to develop the infrastructure of the IET research center in order to increase its competitiveness and excellence. One of the key areas of research is material and energy recovery of waste, where research activities will be focusing on material utilization of technogenic pozzolans, thermal treatment of waste polymer materials and anaerobic digestion. The second key research area is the reduction of pollutants in the environment, where the research activities will focus on the preparation of surfactant materials for environmental applications, purification of waste gases by catalytic and sorption processes, photocatalytic removal of pollutants in the gaseous phase and exploring the possibilities of detection and removal of pollutants from surface and sewage water.
The solution is done under two research programs (RP) aimed at:
RP1 - Material and energy recovery of waste
- Reducing the environmental burden of the production of large-scale waste by metallurgical and energy plants.
- Increasing the efficiency of catalytic pyrolysis, especially of polymer materials.
- Increasing the level and safety of anaerobic conversion of waste into high calorific gas.
RP2 - Reducing pollutants in the environment
- Reduction of air pollution (nitrogen oxides, CO2, VOC) by catalytic, photocatalytic and adsorption methods.
- Elimination of xenobiotics in sewage and surface waters by photocatalytic and adsorption methods.
As many as 72.07 (FTE) researchers, including 7 new FTE researchers. The expected results of the project include the involvement of the Center in 2 international projects, the creation of a total of 88 quality impacted publications, a large part of which will be in cooperation with foreign co-authors, and last but not least the filing of 2 international patent applications.
