Science, research and innovation: the FMT and LAB University of Applied Science join forces

The delegation from LAB University of Applied Science in Lahti, Finland, met with the management of our faculty and followed up on the May meeting in Finland.

On Tuesday, October 15, we welcomed a rare visitor. At the invitation of the dean of FMT Kamila Janovská, a delegation from LAB University of Applied Science in Lahta, Finland - Jyrki Schroderus (RDI Director) and Kateřina Medková (RDI Specialist) visited Ostrava. The meeting was a follow-up to the May visit to this institution by our delegation headed by Dean Kamila Janovská, Vice Dean for Studies Kateřina Skotnicová and Vice Dean for Cooperation with Industry Lukáš Peter.

A working meeting was held at the faculty, thanks to which the cooperation between the two institutions was significantly expanded. At the morning meeting with the faculty management and representatives of individual departments, the guests were introduced to FMT and its departments and our employees were in turn introduced to the LAB University of Applied Science. A discussion followed in which opportunities for cooperation in the field of science and research, development and innovation, mobility and education of students and teachers were discussed. Before lunch, the guests visited the laboratories of the Department of Thermal Engineering, the Department of Chemistry and Physico-Chemical Processes, the Centre for Advanced Innovative Technologies and ended their visit in the StudentCar studios of the Department of Materials and Technologies for Vehicles. In these selected laboratories, key areas of science and research were presented in relation to possible collaboration.

The day-long visit of the representatives of the LAB University of Applied Science continued with an afternoon visit to the IT4innovations national supercomputing centre. Next on the agenda was a presentation of the CirkArena project and a discussion on the circular economy, recycling and the environment. This meeting was also attended by representatives of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and the Faculty of Mining and Geology, whose laboratories were also visited by the guests afterwards.

Thank you very much for your visit and we look forward to joint projects not only in the field of science and research, but also in the field of mobility and education.
