Support for cross-sectoral cooperation in the field of pollutant reduction in the environment and waste recovery

With the financial support of the European Structural and Investment Funds, the Institute of Environmental Technology of VSB-Technical University of Ostrava is implementing in the period July 1, 2018 - December 31, 2022 a project entitled “Support of Cross-Sectoral Cooperation in the Field of Pollutant Reduction in the Environment and Waste Utilization” (CZ. 02/01/01 / 0.0 / 0.0 / 17_049 / 0008419). The project was created within the Operational Program Research, Development and Education (OP RDE), call: Long-term inter-sector cooperation for ITI, with a total cost of CZK 80.5 million.
The aim of the project is to establish and develop interdisciplinary cooperation between the Institute of Environmental Technology of VSB-TU Ostrava and 4 project partners, DEKONTA Ltd., GASCONTROL, inc., UNIKASSET, inc. and TECHNICAL SERVICES OF AIR PROTECTION OSTRAVA inc., jointly solve selected current environmental problems with a two-way transfer of information, knowledge and experience and interconnect research application problems with the achieved scientific knowledge. Joint research will be carried out in 2 research plans (RP) with the aim to reduce pollutants in the environment, especially in the air and water, and to utilize bio-waste from their fermentation for energy:

RP1 - Reduction of pollutants in the environment

  • Reduction of air pollution (NH3, VOC) by catalytic and photochemical methods.
  • Detection of PM1 fractions in waste gases.
  • Elimination of xenobiotics and other pollutants (drugs, hormones and personal hygiene products) in surface and waste water by photocatalytic and adsorption methods.

RP2 - Energy use of biowaste

  • Increased use of bio-waste for energy production incl. the return of nutrients from processed biowaste to agricultural land.
  • Extension of scientific knowledge about possibilities of monitoring and control of anaerobic digestion process in biogas plants.
  • Research of new possibilities of biogas cleaning.
  • Increasing the use of biogas energy.

The planned results of the project are the creation of 24 joint professional publications in high quality recognized journals and filing of 3 international patent applications. A total of 52.8 (FTE) researchers will be allowed to be employed within the project implementation, of which 1.7 FTE are entirely new researchers.
