Title
Cost- and resource-efficient storage of hydrogen at ambient temperature and a maximum pressure of 3.5 MPa
Code
CETP-2023-00237
Summary
The (mobile) storage of hydrogen is a key component for the successful coupling of hydrogen production and application. Therefore, hydrogen storage is a link in the entire value chain of the hydrogen economy and is the basis for ensuring the flexibility of the energy system. An estimate from “MARKETSANDMAR-KETS” [1] suggests that the hydrogen storage market could be worth around $6.3 billion by 2030. Main goal of «Core-H2storage» is the cost- and resource-efficient storage of hydrogen for different applications.
As a driver for sustainable H2 storage, the planned technology development makes an important contribu-tion to ensuring the responsible use of renewable energies. Therefore, the main goal of this project is the H2-storage at ambient temperature and at a pressure of up to 3.5 MPa in scalable solutions. For that, solid-state sorbents in particular high-entropy alloys and Si-aerogels are made accessible as an alternative to storage at very high pressures or cryogenic temperatures. This results in a large energy saving and in two different systems for flexible H2-storage.
