Realization of the project “Nanotechnology” (granted by the Ministry of Sport and Education, ROZP2006/411) allowed the accreditation of the new Bachelor’s and Master’s study programme “Nanotechnology”, both of which have been realized as institution-wide programmes since 2007. VSB – Technical University of Ostrava was the first University in the Czech Republic to offer such a study programme. In 2012, first students were accepted to a doctoral study programme in the same field. Nanotechnology Centre provides most of the education taking place in all these three programmes. Furthermore, it secures the education in the chemistry-related subjects for three VSB – Technical University of Ostrava faculties (Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering and Faculty of Mining and Geology), mainly for the Bachelor’s and Master's degrees in “Building construction”, “Chemical Metallurgy”, or “Environmental Engineering”. Students have state-of-the-art apparatus at their disposal in the laboratories. The practical education builds on the theory discussed in the lectures focused on chemistry, preparation, and characterization of the nanostructured materials. In the frame of two European projects, Infrastructural Support of Strategic Study Programme of CNT VSB – Technical University of Ostrava Infrastructure (reg.no. CZ.02.2.67/0.0/0.0/16_016/0002468) and Infrastructure support of scientific education of doctoral students at CNT VSB – Technical University of Ostrava (CZ.02.1.01/0.0/0.0/16_017/0002664), the current equipment is going to be expanded with several new sophisticated pieces of apparatus allowing special observations and measurements. An integral part of the educational process is also the involvement of the students in the grant projects and practical requirements of the manufacturing companies whose production activity is focused (not necessarily only) on the field of nanotechnology.
