The Energy Research Centre uses three buildings for its activities. The first building, VEC 1, currently houses the Centre’s management. The rear section contains a laboratory and a smaller test facility with a control room, which serves as the operator station for the gasification unit located in the covered courtyard. The second building, VEC 2, was constructed in 2005. A substantial part of the building is occupied by a test facility for energy technologies.

In 2012, the VEC 3 pavilion was added, providing facilities for experimental research into biomass gasification technologies, including the production of second-generation liquid fuels; the development and innovation of technologies for decentralised heat and power generation (cogeneration); and research and development focused on the explosion characteristics of dust dispersions, flammable liquids and vapours.
