Industrial Chemistry

The research group focuses on chemical processes for the transformation of matter – including chemical substances, polymers and biomass – into products with practical value. Its activities include hydrogen production through catalytic dry reforming of hydrocarbons generated during the thermochemical processing of materials, as well as the catalytic hydrogenation of carbon dioxide.

In the field of industrial chemical and environmental technologies, the group also designs and optimises equipment for unit operations used in the processing, refining and production of these substances.

Heterogeneous Photocatalysis

The research group focuses on photocatalytic processes. Its activities include studying the efficiency of photocatalysts for the photocatalytic reduction of carbon dioxide, photocatalytic decomposition of nitrous oxide, photocatalytic water splitting in the presence of methanol, and the removal of pollutants from water. The group also investigates the kinetics of photocatalytic reactions and the application of advanced oxidation processes for waste gas treatment.

The laboratory is equipped with batch photocatalytic reactors of various geometries for gas- and liquid-phase reactions, a flow reactor for gas-phase testing, a photoelectrochemical spectrometer, a Kelvin probe, and a pilot-scale unit for advanced oxidation processes.

Preparation of Materials and Waste Valorisation

The research group focuses on the preparation and optimisation of various types of nanostructured materials in different macroscopic forms, using both inorganic precursors and readily available waste materials. These materials are developed primarily for adsorption, photocatalytic and catalytic oxidation of organic pollutants in waste gases, as well as for the photocatalytic reduction of greenhouse gases.

In addition to conventional preparation methods, the group uses processes and technologies based on supercritical and superheated fluids, subcritical water and microwaves for material synthesis and waste valorisation. The group also provides analytical services focused on the textural characterisation of materials.
