Through its educational activities, IET participates alongside faculties in the implementation of accredited study programs. Students of follow-up master's and especially doctoral studies in the study programs of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, Thermal Engineering and Fuels in Industry, Environmental Protection in Industry, Nanotechnology, and others are involved in the implementation of research projects.
The Institute of Environmental Technologies (IET) was established from the university-wide workplace Centrum environmentálních technologií (CEET) in August 2014, when its statute as a university institute was approved pursuant to Act No. 111/1998 Coll., on Higher Education Institutions.
The establishment of the IET university institute reflects the changes that occurred in connection with the project "Institute of Environmental Technologies" under the Research and Development for Innovations Operational Programme, carried out under the leadership of Professor Karel Obroučka, together with the University of Ostrava between 2011 and 2013. Within the framework of this project, a research pavilion—where the center is now located—was built, and modern equipment, instruments, and technological units for research were acquired.
