The research infrastructure of the Institute of Environmental Technology, focused on energy recovery from waste and the purification of flue and waste gases, has been included since 2019 in the Roadmap of Large Research Infrastructures of the Czech Republic, supported by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic within the project "ENREGAT - Energy recovery from waste and gas treatment" (LM2018098).


As of January 1, 2021, the university institute Institute of Environmental Technology merged with three other university institutes—the Nanotechnology Centre, the Energy Research Center, and the Centre for Energy Utilization of Non-traditional Energy Sources—to form a new university institute, the Centre for Energy and Environmental Technologies (CEET).
The Institute of Environmental Technology is a research and educational workplace whose activities are professionally focused on:
- thermal methods of waste processing,
- anaerobic digestion of biowaste,
- reduction of pollutants (N2O, NOx, VOCs, CO2, NH3) in waste gases and the air using catalytic and photocatalytic methods,
- removal of xenobiotics from wastewater and surface water,
- material utilization of solid residues,
- environmental technologies,
- new methods for monitoring pollutants in the environment.
Through its educational activities, IET participates alongside faculties in the implementation of accredited study programs. Students of follow-up master's and especially doctoral studies in the study programs of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, Thermal Engineering and Fuels in Industry, Environmental Protection in Industry, Nanotechnology, and others are involved in the implementation of research projects.
