Thermochemical and Hydrogen Conversion

The research group focuses on engineering and processing technologies for the thermal treatment of waste materials and alternative fuels, with an emphasis on maximising the efficiency of the entire process. It also conducts basic and applied research into combustion, fluid flow, heat transfer, drying, pollutant sorption in fluidised-bed boilers, and the substitution of conventional fuels with alternative fuels. The group also develops mathematical models of individual processes and verifies them through experimental measurements.

Energy By-products

The research group specialises in studying the environmental impacts of anthropogenic activities associated with thermal processes, with particular emphasis on the occurrence of organic compounds. It conducts detailed research into the properties of fuels and combustion products in order to improve understanding of combustion processes and reduce the occurrence of technological problems. The group also assesses contamination of the atmosphere, soils, sediments and combustion products with the aim of developing strategies to mitigate anthropogenic impacts on the environment. Its research also covers biodegradable materials and their potential use in energy technologies.

Bulk Materials

The research group conducts basic and applied research in the processing, storage and transport of bulk materials. Its work focuses primarily on the mechanical, physical and geometric properties of bulk solids, which are essential for assessing their initial condition and for developing subsequent structural, engineering and mathematical models of their processing.

The research is based on identifying the optimal relationship between bulk material properties, geometric configurations, applied materials and the governing principles of production, transport and storage processes. The group also conducts research into material pelletisation, particularly biomass.
