Summary
The main goal of this innovative project is the increase of efficiency of the photocatalytic reduction of CO2 using novel nanostructured materials based on layered double hydroxides (LDH). Carbon dioxide will be photocatalytically reduced to possible energy sources – methane and hydrogen and to pure chemicals such as methanol in presence of water (vapor or liquid)
In order to achieve this goal, new nanostructured materials based on layered double hydroxides will be prepared and thoroughly characterized using available characterization techniques and finally used for the photocatalytic reduction of CO2. Based on the correlation between physico-chemical properties and photocatalytic activity of studied photocatalysts, the preparation and composition of the photocatalysts will be optimized toward maximum yield of the photocatalytic reduction of CO2.
Another contribution of the project is to allow young and starting scientists to gain and develop their skills in international working environment. The participation of three young scientists up to 35 years of age on project’s research activities of both institutions will allow more complex and deeper study of photocatalytic processes.
The obtained results will be published in specialized impacted scientific journals (code Jimp) such as, Applied Surface Science, Journal of Sol-gel Science and Technology and Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology.. The results will be also presented at important international and national conferences.
