Title
Development, construction and testing of a new type of reactor for simultaneous measurement of sorption and photocatalysis of dye simulants
Code
SP2018/75
Summary
Based on preliminary tests, a new method of continuous optical measurement of the photocatalytic activity of semiconductor nanopowder materials by modifying the Lambert-Beer law for absorption of light in dispersive environments was verified.
Experiences based on photoluminescence measurements showed the need to test photocatalytic processes for different wavelengths of activation radiation. Therefore, the reaction chamber in the new type of reactor will be irradiated with a replaceable set of 10W LEDs with maximum emission wavelengths at 365, 380, 390, 400, 410, 420 , 440, 470 and 495 nm. The wide-spectrum analysis of photocatalytic effects is also motivated by the effort to develop such photocatalysts that would work with high efficiency in visible light.
The new type of reactor will also allow to study the sorption part of the process in rapid sampling mode. In the continuous mode, there is no influence on the system caused by sampling for optical absorption measurements in cuvettes.
Standard photocatalytic semiconductor nanoparticles such as TiO2 and ZnO and new materials such as graphitic C3N4 and its zinc silicate composites will be tested in the reactor.
