Title
Characterization and possible environmental risks of synthetic lanthanide oxides nanoparticles and particles from non-combustion processes in traffic
Code
SP2018/81
Summary
The project will deal with two main issues. In the first case, the characterization and assessment of possible environmental risks of particulates resulting from non-combustion processes in the traffic (frictional processes during vehicle braking) will be carried out. The characterization will be focused on elucidation of the elementary and phase composition of the studied material and will be subsequently studied the influence of the tested material on biosystems using selected the toxicity tests. In the second case, the object of the research will be focused on the preparation of nanostructured materials based on oxides of internally transition metals (e.g. Er2O3, Gd2O3, Sm2O3) and clarification of their synthesis mechanism. Subsequently, nanostructured lanthanide oxides will be characterized by selected instrumental techniques and experimentally assessed their impact on biosystems.
