Characterization of magnetic nanostructures with optical techniques

Summary
The project is focused on fundamental studies of nanostructures based on ferromagnetic metals and oxides using magnetooptic (MO)
magnetometry, spectral ellipsometry, and MO spectroscopy. The accent is put on the enhanced role of interfaces in nanomaterials compared
to their bulk counter-parts. The results are correlated with the structural analysis and explained with macroscopic and microscopic models.
They are expected to be of interest in next generation recording media, spin electronics, nonreciprocal devices, MO sensors operating up to
microwave range, surface plasmon sensors in physics and medicine, etc. The project is expected to bring new results in the optics of
magnetic nanostructures suitable for the presentation in international scientific journals. The project supports the collaboration with universities
in USA, Canada, Japan, France, India, China, Poland, and Germany, multidisciplinary training of young scientists, teaching in Optics and
Nanotechnology, and creates the conditions for realization of an international research project.
