Design, construction and testing of microfluidic device for biosynthesis of noble metals nanoparticles

Summary
The aim of the project is to design, construct and test a simple experimental microfluidic device that will serve for the biosynthesis of noble metal nanoparticles. Low volume of reagents will be used for biosynthesis of nanoparticles, and a better control and optimization of the process is expected over standard biosynthetic procedures to prepare stable, homogeneous size distribution nanoparticles for further applications in heterogeneous catalysis and disinfection. For the synthesis of nanoparticles through the green route, water extracts of medically important plants and standard metal precursors - HauCl4 and AgNO3 - will be used. Biosynthetic nanoparticles will be characterized by available analytical techniques, in particular UV-VIS spectrometry and electron microscopy methods.In conclusion, we will discuss and summarize the knowledge about possible further use of microfluidic techniques in the preparation of metallic nanoparticles by the green way.
