Terahertz and infrared phonons in organic crystals

Summary
Phonons are quasi-particles representing the collective vibration of the crystalline lattice in solids. They are located in the low-frequency part of the electromagnetic spectrum in the infrared and the terahertz frequencies. Spectroscopic methods like THz - TDS and FTIR can be used for measuring. Organic molecular crystals, due to their structure and chemical bonds, have a distinct spectrum in the IR region beginning with inter-atomic vibrations, up to vibration of the entire crystalline lattice in the THz part of the spectrum. Thanks to the DFT computational methods, these vibrations can be modeled and their origin estimated.
