Abstract
N20 is the third most important of the long-lived greenhouse gases (LLGHGs) in the globál warming terms. Although it only comprises 320 parts per billion of the earth’s atmosphere, its contribution to globál warming is important as it has a globál warming potential nearly 300 times greater than that of C02. The photocatalytic decomposition of nitrous oxide on semiconductor photocatalysts under UV irradiation may be an attractive and economically competitive method for its removal. Considering the commercial availability, Chemical stability and suitable optical/electronic adjustable properties, Ti02 nanomaterials seem to be an appropriate candidate. The doping of Ti02 with suitable ions seems to be a promising method for improving its photocatalytic efficiency. Improved photocatalytic activity of Ti02 was observed in the photocatalytic decomposition of N20 after the doping of Ti02 by silver, cerium or nitrogen.
