Abstract

Based on previous extensive laboratory screening tests, multicomponent K-doped Co-Mn-Al mixed oxide deN2O catalyst with optimal composition was prepared in large scale by calcination of Co-Mn-Al layered double hydroxide, following impregnation by KNO3, shaping into tablets and tested in the pilot plant reactor connected at the bypassed tail gas from the nitric production plant downstream the SCR NOx/NH3 catalyst. High output in N2O removal (N2O conversion of 90 ± 6% at 450 °C, GHSV=8 620 m3 mbed-3 h-1) was reached during long term test (130 days). Simultaneously, intrinsic kinetic data were obtained in laboratory conditions and used for modelling of laboratory as well as pilot plant reactor. The model simulations results were found to agree well with the experiments carried out in the range of the studied operating conditions. The model is used to discuss relationship between catalyst activity in kinetic regime, internal diffusion limitation in pilot plant scale catalyst and the final catalyst performance in large scale.
